Bir süredir planladığım ama tembellikten vakit bulamadığım yeni Türkçe blog’umu açtım. Lafı fazla uzatmayayım ve haybinkunduz! adlı Türkçe bloguma buradan buyrun diyeyim.

Hatta hazır bu işle uğraşıyorken, bir de RSS beslemelere üye olsanız ne güzel olur.

For the course Image, Time and Motion II, instructed by Andreas Treske, we will be having seminars until the end of the semester. In this course related to new media, I will be doing my seminar on blogging. So, apart from academic papers and the previous thoughts I have, I thought it would be good and useful to collect raw data from bloggers and blog readers.

The first one is intended for bloggers (people who write). Please find the survey here.

The second one is intended for both bloggers and those who read blogs. Please find this one here, and please fill both if you are a blogger.

Micro-blogging (or tumble-logging) has become pretty popular thanks to platforms like Tumblr, Jaiku, Cromple and especially Twitter. Google’s acquisition of Jaiku is also a sign that blogging is switching to what’s called micro-blogging, where each post is like a status update of what you are doing or at least shorter posts than you see on traditional blogs. What makes these blogs popular is that you no longer have to worry about the look and spelling, and most importantly content of your posts. They are not to publish content, rather, they function as a way to be updated about what your friends are doing (Tumblr might be an exception to this).

Tumblr is a simplified (idiot-proof?) blogging system, which encourages you to post media along with your posts with an easy interface. Jaiku, Cromple and Twitter, on the other hand, work similar to each other. They allow you to view an ever-changing public timeline (meaning, what all other users are doing, which gets updated any second). Jaiku and Twitter also allow you to update your status with your mobile phones through text messaging.

I have updated the theme of my blog from Red Business to Freicurv.

Been working on a couple of customizations since yesterday night and finally got it to what I want. This theme looks a lot more sleek and leet, and the 3-column design gives more space for flexibility and stylish look. Also switched to ShareThis for a more compact look on social bookmarking. Also, now added the “Subscribe via email” button to the top right if you want to be informed when a new post is made.

Still got a couple slight customizations on the way, which should be done very soon.

But this very act of writing (rather posting) is womb envy, and I envy women who write good.

Hakan Demiray‘ın bloguna uzun zamandır bakmıyordum. Biraz önce şöyle bir bakınayım derken yaklaşık on gün önce Türkiye Blog Konferansı ‘07 adında bir etkinliğin düzenlendiğini gördüm.

Şimdi haberim olduğundan doğrusu çok da bilgim yok ve bu süreci takip edemedim. Ancak konferans programına bakılınca (ki GFxDizayn’dan Yassaman’ın yorumlarda dediği gibi konferanstan çok bir ‘gün’ gibi) çok da ahım şahım bir şeye benzemiyormuş doğrusu.

Hakan’ın da öngördüğü gibi blogging ve pazarlamayı nasıl birleştiririz konferansı olmuş.  Microsoft Türkiye Genel Müdürü’nün yaptığı açılış konuşması da bunu çok açık gösteriyor zaten. Microsoft’un uygulamalarının tanıtıldığı (tanıtmak çok naif bir ifade oldu) bir etkinlik ayrıca. Konferans sunum görüntülerini buradan izleyebilir kararı kendiniz de verebilirsiniz. Etkinliğe Microsoft sponsor olmuş olabilir ve Microsoft MSN Spaces gibi bir blogging (?) platforumuna da ev sahipliği yapıyor olabilir… Ama bu durumun bazı şeyleri meşru kıldığını hiç sanmıyorum. Bir üniversitede bu etkinliği yaparak akademik olduğu imajı da veriliyor elbet.

Bloglar, new media/Web 2.0 ve fazlası hakkında yazılmış/söylenmiş ve yazılabilecek/söylenebilecek o kadar şey varken, adının aksine bu kadar sığ bir etkinlik nasıl yapılabilir, doğrusu çok şaşırdım.

Sonuç olarak, PR etkinliğidir, geçiniz efen’im, ve bir de internet kültürü yanıtıyla UFAIL!

Caffeine is no doubt a best friend for college students, as well as those who feel the need to be awake whole day. After all, it’s one of the rare legal stimulants out there.

Anyway, I’ve found this blog wholly devoted to caffeine: a database of the amount of caffeine in drinks, food/tablets/gums and more, as well as new caffeine products and related market news. Check out this very interesting blog named Energy Fiend: Obsessed with Caffeine.

Doğrusu bu dilde yazılmış kayda değer bir blog henüz görmedim. Pek blogosfer insanı değilim gerçi, her ne kadar blog’umla uğraşsam da. Sanırım bu dildeki blogların çoğu ya eş dost için ya da belli bir konu üzerine (arabalar?) yazılan şeyleri içeriyor.

Bu konuya giriş paragrafından sonra, asıl bahsedeceğim konuya gireyim: Bir arkadaşımın blogu olduğunu öğrendim. Pek bakmadığı için adresini bile unuttuğunu söylediği blogu okuduğumda hayran kaldığımı söylemeliyim. Dili kullanışındaki mükemmelliği ve bir şeyleri ifade ediş tarzı öylesine güzel ki… Bu yüzden bu blogu salt bir web günlüğü olarak görmemek gerek. Blogun adı “we talked of death and this was life to us.” Yazan kişinin bir kadın olduğunu söylersem aklınıza ilk gelenin ne olacağını da biliyorum. Hayır, değil! Bahsettiği şeyler benim için, kendi deyimiyle “genç kız” yazılarından fazlası. O da bunun farkında elbet, ancak yazı yazma konusundaki güven eksikliği (hangimiz de yokki, Damla?) nedeniyle çekiniyor yazmaya devam etmeye.

Her ne kadar insanlar okusun diye yazmıyorsak da bu blogları, okuyan birilerinin olduğunu bilmek ve yorumlar almak her zaman güzeldir. Bu nedenle, tıklayınız buraya…

Blogosphere is huge and blogging is serious business. An organization called College Scholarships will reward the best blog with a nice $10.000. The selection will be made by internet users, so you might want to have a look at all the blogs and vote for one.

You can view all the top 20 blogs here. Personally, I liked Kevin Lim’s blog as the content appealed to me more. But it seems like a lot of people have gone emo and voted for Kimberlay Klein (no offense!).

Ok… It has been a long break - since I last wrote stuff on my blog - for me. The main reason being my web hosting company screwed up my site while moving the whole server to a new one. The unlucky me (as usual) was out of town and could not verify whether my files were successfully moved. In short, all my files - the huge theme editing/customization I did and all images I posted are gone poof. Hopefully, I later learnt that the MySQL database was there, so at least I got all the stuff I wrote in the last one and almost a half year back.

Anyway, so I’ll be updating my blog from now on, with one major change though. I won’t be writing in Turkish as I did earlier. The main reason being I can’t be arsed to translate the whole theme to Turkish. This doesn’t mean I’ll never ever use my mother tongue, but the main language will be English (one less native-language-blog in the blogosphere, as if someone cares).

So, this is the story so far. I’ll be writing what happened in the last few months (well, slightly) in the next post. Also, I have to make some customizations to this site as well, like updating my movie review addon and so on.
